Archie Comics' long-running Archie title is getting a new name - and dual numbering. Beginning with May's #705, the series will be titled Archie and Sabrina to signal the two characters' romance has finally gone public.
"The biggest revelation from Nick's first arc was that Archie and Sabrina were a couple - which got everyone talking and set up a new, wholly original status quo," said Archie Comics Co-President Alex Segura. "But how'd we get there? What are the repercussions? We'll see that as Sandy and Nick roll out their second arc, and it made sense to have the title reflect that - showcasing two of the company's biggest characters in one, must-read title."
What will this mean for the names and numbering of the title? Well, May 2019's Archie and Sabrina #1 will also be Archie #705, with #2 being #706, and so on. According to the publisher's press release, the renaming is set to run five issues - and presumably, reverting back to a singular title and numbering with Archie #710.
Dual numbering is something Marvel and DC have experimented with off and on for decades. Currently many of Marvel's long-running titles carry its actual number and a higher "Legacy" number that discounts relaunches and new volumes.
