Marvel Comics’ Free Comic Book Day plans have grown again to include a Spider-Man/Venom special which will introduce what Marvel calls a “shocking new direction” for its Spider-titles.
It’s unclear what that direction will be, but Marvel’s press release mentions Into the Spider-Verse, potentially suggesting there’s more to the special’s cover image of Miles Morales and Peter Parker squaring off (seen here) than meets the eye. This lead tale is by writers Tom Taylor and Saladin Ahmed and artist Cory Smith.
On the Venom side, Marvel has teased a story from writer Donny Cates and artist Ryan Stegman which the publisher says connects to classic issues Amazing Spider-Man #252, The Spectacular Spider-Man #90, Marvel Team-Up #141 – the start of the black costume saga, a tale that explores the history of Spidey’s relationship with the Black Cat, and the first appearance of the black costume, respectively.
Marvel calls this Venom story “the most dramatic story in all of FCBD history,” saying “everyone is a target” in its wake.
