The CW has given early renewal to almost all of their comic book-based drama for new seasons, according to The Hollywood Reporter, including Arrow (season 8), The Flash (6th), DC's Legends of Tomorrow (5th), Supergirl (5th), Black Lightning (3rd) and Riverdale (4th).
iZombie's upcoming fifth season, which begins May 2, was already scheduled to be its last.
"The early renewal of these signature CW series gives us a head start on laying out the 2019-2020 season, and this is just the beginning," CW president Mark Pedowitz said of all the shows they were renewing, including their comic book based dramas.
"We are so excited and so honored that the viewers have made another Riverdale season possible," said Jon Goldwater, Archie Comics CEO/Publisher and executive producer. "This show has become a cultural phenomenon that's engaged the fans in unimaginable ways. It's been amazing to see these iconic characters brought to life by such a superb cast and crew - with huge thanks to Roberto [Aguirre-Sacasa], Greg [Berlanti], Sarah [Schechter], everyone at Archie Comics, WBTV, The CW, and the entire Riverdale writers room. Most importantly, I want to thank the fans - who made this happen. If you thought season 3 was shocking - hold on. We're just getting warmed up."
The CW previously announced a "Crisis on Infinite Earths" crossover event for the Arrow-verse shows to occur in the fall of 2019.
The Hollywood trade also mentioned that the Arrow-verse offshoot Batwoman and Riverdale offshoot Katy Keene pilots for are in contention for 2019-2020 spots. The CW reportedly has three other unnamed pilots in thr works - "with more expected to come."
Previous reports indicated CW was recently in development additional shows based on DC's Traci Thirteen (as Project 13), Vertigo's Survivors Club, Valiant's Doctor Mirage, and Cullen Bunn's Super Clean OGN; those projects were not mentioned in today's renewals.
