April Powers1 of 12
With War of the Realms coming to the Marvel Universe in April, the horrors of combat will spill out all across Midgard - and judging by Marvel's just released April solicitations, a lot of folks aren't gonna be walking away from this one.
As always, we here at Newsarama have pored over these new solicits, extracting the biggest bits of news therein.
Here's what we learned from Marvel's April 2019 solicitations.
A Hero Falls2 of 12
Malekith's massive army will come to Midgard when War of the Relams kicks off in April - and by the time #2 hits later that same month, the casualties will already be stacking up.
That's right - this war will apparently pull no punches, with the War of the Realms #2 solicit saying "a hero falls" as Earth is "overwhelmed."
Stryfe's Strike File3 of 12
Stab his eyes, the villainous Stryfe is primed to return in April's X-Force #6. His comeback follows the solicited return of Ahab in the recently-relaunched book - another villain from the future with ties to Cable.
But a deeper question worth asking in this impending X-Force #6 arrival is... which Stryfe is it?
While the best known version of Stryfe is the classic clone of Cable from the future, you can't count out the other Stryfe - a future version of Hope Summers introduced in the 2013-2014 Cable & X-Force title.
Speaking of Stryfe, over in April's Uncanny X-Men #15-#16 solicits it says that team is returning - "led by one of the X-Men’s own." Stryfe led the X-Men, but he was never an X-Man -- well the Cable clone one wasn't, at least... hmmm....
But then again, we might need a crystal ball to predict what's next.
Cosmic Spider-Rider4 of 12
Cosmic Ghost Rider Destroys Marvel History will cut a swath through some classic Marvel stories, and in April's #2 the twofer mash-up character will become a three-fer.
That's right - it looks like Frank Castle, Spirit of Vengeance from the future, will impersonate Spider-Man as part of his jaunt through Marvel's timeline.
Secrets of the Sub-Mariner5 of 12
Namor is one of Marvel's oldest heroes (both in Marvel Universe chronology and real world time) with a career and publishing history that stretch back to World War II.
But according to the solicitation for April's Invaders #4, Namor has a "secret history" we're only just now about to learn.
Last time he had a major secret about his history, we discovered he was Marvel's 'first mutant' in modern times.
Maybe whatever he's hiding will explain his recent villainous actions...
Bits and Pieces6 of 12
As if April didn't hold enough impending death and destruction for the Marvel Universe, it appears someone else may take a dive in April's Tony Stark: Iron Man #11.
"Who’s your favorite cast member?," reads the solicit text. "Tony, Jocasta, Andy, Rhodey, Bethany, Amanda, Machine Man, or the Wasp? Maybe you shouldn’t get too attached. Not everyone’s making it out of this story in one piece."
From the sound of that ominous text, we're lighting our candles for Jocasta or Machine Man now...
Guardians Unguarded7 of 12
The target of the Dark Guardians (who debuted in March's solicitations) has been revealed in the solicit for April's Guardians of the Galaxy #4 - and it's Gamora - the longtime Guardian who took a villainous turn in the recent Infinity Wars.
But coming to her aid appears to be the latest iteration of the cosmic team - including Cosmic Ghost Rider, Phyla-Vell, Groot, Star-Lord, Moondragon, and Beta-Ray Bill.
Kraven's 'Horrible' Hunt8 of 12
Spider-Man's got a bunch of animal-themed foes, and in April's Amazing Spider-Man #19, it seems they're all finally fulfilling their destiny as part of the Kraven-centric "Hunted" arc.
But the solicit text also hints at "something horrible" in the story's previous issue. With Kraven the Hunter in the picture, what that means could be grim indeed.
Rogue Vs. Carol Danvers Round 29 of 12
The rivalry between Carol Danvers and Rogue, who absorbed Danvers' powers and left her comatose in her first appearance, hasn't come up lately - but all of that is about to change in April's Captain Marvel #4.
The solicitation for the issue says the two will once again be at odds thanks to the machinations of the Nuclear Man - and the cover, seen here, shows Captain Marvel and Rogue fully coming to blows once again.
And check out that cover - a homage to Jim Lee's Uncanny X-Men #269 cover.
Strange Foes10 of 12
Speaking of classic Marvel rematches, Doctor Strange will face off against the world-devouring Galactus in Doctor Strange #13.
Strange bested Galactus once before way back in the 80s, by casting a spell that caused him to feel the guilt of every life he'd ever consumed.
But according to the issue's solicitation, Galactus is now devouring entire dimensions. What spell will Strange have to cast to over come that?
Death of an Avenger?11 of 12
The weekly Avengers: No Road Home comes to an end with April's #10, and from the sound of the solicitation, the title will come all too true for one of Earth's Mightiest Heroes.
"Will an Avenger die?" asks the solicit text. Judging by the cover for the preceding issue, April's #9, it could just be the android Vision who is destroyed (again).
