Starting in April, Deadpool creator Rob Liefeld will venture into a new corner of the Marvel Universe with Major X, a six-issue limited series featuring a new Liefeld creation who hails from the alternate mutant utopia reality "X-istence."

“To me, the X-Men have always thrived on big ideas, crazy ideas,” Liefeld told Entertainment Weekly. “Major X introduces a new character who is certain to mix up everything in the X-world. He hails from another existence, which is called the ‘X-istence’ — a mutant Shangri-La, a safe haven that has been a realm where mutant kind has lived in peace and harmony. They escaped there following a tragedy that befell mutant kind, and built this community…but then a terrible event happens within the X-istence that causes Major X to cross over and land in the Marvel Universe that we know.”

“I still remember when Rob made his Marvel debut, and the impact his art and storytelling had on comics," said Marvel's Editor-In-Chief C.B. Cebulski. "The energy and enthusiasm Rob brings to comics and every page he draws is still felt to this day, and it’s a joy to have him return to his roots with the X-Men. Rob may have started developing these X-ideas 30 years ago, but his story will leave an indelible mark on our modern mutants!”

According to Liefeld, these ideas actually do go back all the way to his early days on New Mutants and X-Force.

"Major X makes the jump, in a last-ditch effort to try and save his home, and arrives in our Marvel X-Men continuity," Liefeld explained to Marvel.com. "But the first jump didn't quite land him where he needed to go, so it was pretty exciting to put him in 1991, somewhere between New Mutants #98 and X-Force #1," he says. "I'm literally writing the Cable and the Deadpool and the Shatterstar of my youth."

Major X #1 is scheduled for April. The first issue features interiors from Rob Liefeld, while Brent Peebles will provide art for issue #2.
