Spider-Man will be taking the field for the New York Mets on July 7 as he's a featured guest for the team's Marvel Super Hero Day at Citi Field in New York. Monday's Spider-Man: Far From Home teaser trailer confirmed Peter is indeed a Mets fan (check that Mike Piazza banner in his room), but his allegiance to the team - and their field - goes back much, much further.
The Mets' former home, Shea Stadium, was the real-life site of a unique Marvel publicity stunt for Spider-Man's wedding to Mary Jane Watson back on June 5, 1987. Over 45,000 were in attendance for the special mock-wedding - presided over by the late Stan Lee, of course - immediately before a game between the Mets and the Pittsburgh Pirates.
(The Mets ended up winning that game, 5-1.)
Shea Stadium was eventually demolished to make way for a parking lot for the more modern Citi Field, but you can still go over and commemorate the event (if you can pay for the parking).
Here are the details on the Mets' 2019 Spider-Man event over at Citi Field. If you're lucky, you can walk away with a free bobblehead. Sorry, they don't have any bouquets.
