A new Ghostbusters film is in development at Sony Pictures - with the original's director Ivan Reitman producing and his son, Jason Reitman, co-writing and directing, according to Variety. The younger Reitman has reportedly completed a script with co-writer Gil Kenan under the title "Rust City," with the intent to film this summer for a planned summer 2020 release.
This fourth film is intended to be a direct sequel to 1984's Ghostbusters II, with no connection to 2016's Ghostbusters: Answer The Call, according to the Hollywood trade. Unspecified teenage actors have reportedly already begun testing for four mystery roles.
Ivan Reitman, who directed the first two films, is said to be viewing this pairing with his son Jason as a "passing of the torch" according to Variety. Jason appeared as a child actor in Ghostbusters II, and has went on write and direct films such as Juno, Thank You for Smoking, Up in the Air, Tully, and The Front Runner.
