Updated February 21, 2019: With two weeks until its release, Captain Marvel advance ticket sales with Fandango have surpassed all the previous Marvel Cinematic Universe films except Black Panther and Avengers: Infinity War, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
While Fandango itself hasn't released any information or figures itself, Captain Marvel has reportedly passed Warner Bros.'s Aquaman and Wonder Woman for the same point in their pre-release cycle.
Original Story: Tickets for Marvel Studios' upcoming Captain Marvel went on pre-sale through Fandango on January 7, setting the third place record for first day pre-sales of an MCU film through the online ticket seller, surpassing Captain America: Civil War.
Only Black Panther and Avengers: Infinity War had higher first day pre-sales for MCU films through Fandango.
Meanwhile, Fandango rival Atom Tickets reports that Captain Marvel is their top Marvel film preseller ever across all studios - including Black Panther and Infinity War - since Atom Tickets launched in 2014.
Remember, pre-sale figures from Fandango (which launched in 2000) and the newer Atom Tickets can be affected by each service's market penetration and changes to their respective userbases over time. While these figures can certainly provide insight into market reception, comparisons to past films are not necessarily apples to apples.
Captain Marvel is due out in theaters March 8.
