Brigitte Nielsen wants to play a Marvel villain, as a way of coming full circle from playing the one-time Marvel heroine Red Sonja in the 1985 film. Wait... Red Sonja, a Marvel character?
“I want to scream out to everybody, ‘I am part of the Marvel universe!’ I love the Marvel characters and I want to be back," Nielsen told The Hollywood Reporter.
Nielsen is referring to the fact that "Red Sonja" debuted in Marvel's 1973 Conan the Barbarian #23. Although listed as being created by Roy Thomas, the character was based heavily on Conan creator Robert E. Howard's 1934 character Red Sonya of Rogatino. The 1985 Red Sonja film Nielsen starred in credited Howard as the character's sole creator.
The actress was also attached - and did publicity photos for - a 1990s She-Hulk film, but it was never greenlit.
Nielsen, who reprises her Rocky IV role of Ludmilla Drago in the current Creed II, now wants to play a Marvel villain.
“I see myself in another Marvel story playing the villain where I can just kick butt and just totally scare the crap out of all of you," said thr actor. "But I’ll take anything. I feel like there’s a lot of excitement with a villain. You can go many, many places. If you’re the good person, you better be good. It’s good to be bad."
Several of Nielsen's Creed II co-stars have appeared in Marvel films, ranging from Michael B. Jordan (Black Panther), Sylvester Stallone (Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2), Dolph Lundgren (Punisher), Tessa Thompson (Thor: Ragnarok), and Wood Harris (Ant-Man).
