Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse producer Amy Pascal has revealed some new information about the future of Sony's budding animated Spider-Verse, setting up plans not just for a sequel to Into the Spider-Verse, but for at least one spin-off film.
Speaking to Vanity Fair, Pascal confirmed that the second Into the Spider-Verse will focus on Miles Morales and Gwen Stacy - specifically on their budding romance, a plot point Pascal says didn't make it into the first film. Avatar: The Last Airbender TV director Joaquim Dos Santos will direct, with a script from David Callaham, who was recently reported to be working on Marvel's in-development Shang-Chi script.
Plans for a previously rumored spin-off film are taking shape as well, with Pascal confirming a Spider-Women animated film is in development, also led by Gwen Stacy, with Cindy Moon/Silk and Spider-Woman/Jessica Drew rounding out the cast.
Pascal also hinted at plans for something bigger down the road, saying “There’s a world in which everything comes together, but that’s not something we can talk about yet.”
The only thing Pascal could confirm about this plan was that Sony's animated Spider-Verse and live-action Spider-Man universe which launched with October's Venom are entirely separate.
Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is in theaters now.
