The first Spider-Man: Far From Home trailer debuted to audiences at Brazil's Comic Con Experience (CCXP) over the weekend as a convention exclusive. While the trailer has not yet been shared online, a portion of the movie's panel with Tom Holland (Spider-Man) and Jake Gyllenhaal (Mysterio) was - and it apparently revealed a unique relationship that is far different from comic books.
"Mysterio is a cool new hero that's been recruited by Nick Fury because of a threat that's facing the world," Gyllenhaal explained. "He teams up with Spider-Man to face that threat."
"The amazing story in this film is relationship between Spider-Man and Mysterio. We are brothers-in-arms - a team," Holland added. "We're teaming up to take on this crazy force, which is the Elementals."
Mysterio... a hero? While Marvel Studios is always free to tinker with characters, given Mysterio's nature - the ultimate illusionist - take the claim he is a "cool new hero" and Spider-Man's "brother-in-arms" with a grain of salt, particulary as that would leave the Elementals as the film's main villains.
Who are they? They're bit of a deep cut into Marvel lore; the Elementals are a villainous quartet from comic books comprised of Hellfire, Hydron, Magnum, and Zephyr. They debuted in Tony Isabella and Val Mayerik's Supernatural Thrillers #8 from 1974, and went on to later appear in Ms. Marvel.
