Before he landed the job directing Aquaman, James Wan had an idea for a Batman movie - one that would have incorporated his horror movie sensibilities as the creator of the Insidious and Conjuring franchises.

“In the past like most people I loved the idea of directing Batman, but a horror version of Batman," Wan told Heroic Hollywood. "That would be a potential fantasy of mine, but I feel like he’s been done quite a fair bit. But, I do love the idea of doing an outright scary Batman. I feel like that’d be really cool.”

Batman is no stranger to horror in comic books - a series of crossovers in the 80s and 90s, kicking off with Batman: Red Rain, pitted Batman against Dracula and turned him into a vampire.

Another film, The Batman, is in pre-production with director Matt Reeves. Its story hasn't been revealed.

Wan's first superhero film, Aquaman, opens December 21 in North American theaters.
