Sony's animated Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is tracking for an opening weekend domestic box office of up to $40 million, according to Deadline.

The film, which features Miles Morales, Peter Parker, Gwen Stacy, and other Spider heroes teaming up, is estimated to open in the range of $30-40m.

Into the Spider-Verse marks Sony's first venture into big screen animated Marvel films. The last animated Marvel film to hit the big screen was 2014's Big Hero 6, which opened to $56.2m domestically.

By comparison, this year's animated superhero movie Teen Titans Go! to the Movies grossed $29.6m in its opening domestic weekend, while 2017's Lego Batman Movie opened to $53m.

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is scheduled for a December 14 North American theatrical release.
