Former Marvel 'exclusive' artist Chris Samnee has completed his first new DC work in four years with a variant to December 19's Shazam! #2.
Samnee worked consistently for Marvel from 2010 to 2018, but announced in February that April's Captain America #700 would be his last for the publisher for the time being.
"Thanks for your support of my Marvel work over the last 10 years and thanks to Marvel for the awesome opportunities," Samnee tweeted in February 2018. "I’m super excited about what’s next. I’ll share more as soon as I can!"
In March, Samnee told Newsarama that he was looking forward to writing and drawing his own creator-owned work.
"I would love to have some projects that I get to write and draw. I hope to spend a lot of time making creator-owned comics. I'd love to dip my toe into animation or film work or character design," Samnee said. "I definitely have some big goals that I'm already working towards but I imagine I'll still be drawing comics in ten years, or at least I hope I'm still drawing comics. I don't have a ton of other skills to fall back on!"
