Archie Comics is reviving and rebooting its Sabrina the Teenage Witch comic book following the release of the Netflix Chilling Adventures of Sabrina TV series. First reported by Entertainment Weekly, this new five-issue Sabrina series will be distinct and seperate from the Chilling version (and its comic book source material of the same name).

"Sabrina is one of the most fascinating and story-rich properties at Archie, so I feel incredibly lucky to get the opportunity to build in that world, and with [Archie Comics co-president] Alex Segura, someone I’ve been hoping to work with for a long time now,” said series writer Kelly Thompson. “Because Chilling Adventures of Sabrina already exists and is brilliant, readers should expect something a little different in our book, a modern interpretation of the classic. One of my favorite things to do is come in and modernize a wonderful classic, and I hope with this incredible team on board we can do something really special with Sabrina.”

In this new Sabrina series, the teenage witch will move to Greendale to live with her aunts Hilda and Zelda. According to EW, this Sabrina will deal less with dark Satanic demons and more with "balancing love interests, an instant rivalry, and a couple of misfits who might or might not become fast friends".

Thompson will be joined by by artists Veronica and Andy Fish, who recently illustrated a portion of Archie #699. Veronica has a deep connection with Sabrina it turns out - to an extent.

“I actually grew up in the Greendale area of Massachusetts and had a moody black cat named Sam,” Veronica said. “But I couldn’t, and still can’t, do magic.”

Cover art and character sketches are available at EW's site.

This is the fifth volume of Sabrina the Teenage Witch, following the conclusion of the previous volume in 2009.

The new Sabrina the Teenage Witch is scheduled to debut March 27.
