Marvel Studios concept artist Andy Park has revealed his keyframe illustrations for a once-planned debut of Wasp in Captain America: Civil War.
Some of you may know I did a whole bunch of keyframe illustrations based on an early script draft of Civil War. Wasp was at one point going to make her debut in this movie. It was fun but I’m glad they held out to properly introduce her in #AntManandtheWasp @EvangelineLilly pic.twitter.com/NZjoO3W75W— Andy Park (@andyparkart) November 5, 2018
"She was included in early versions of [Captain America: Civil War] but there are so many characters in Civil War that we didn’t want to do her a disservice, like she flies in, ‘I’ve got the costume now’, and she flies out," studio president Feige said in 2015. "With Ant-Man, and I’m not saying thats what Ant-Man does in the movie, but we already know him, we’ve already seen him. We haven’t seen her as Wasp and we don’t want to rob the opportunity of seeing her in the outfit for at least almost the first time, and seeing her dynamic with Scott in a way it could play out, so we’re saving it. But its going to be in Phase three for sure.”
Evangeline Lilly ended up debuting as the Wasp in 2018's Ant-Man & The Wasp.
Park's Civil War concept art interestingly features Wasp and Ant-Man fighting against Hawkeye - while in the finished film, Ant-Man and Hawkeye didn't fight and were both on Captain America's side.
