A new wrinkle in the game of telephone surrounding the still mysterious (and technically untitled) Avengers 4 has cropped up in the form of a Russian social media blog claiming to confirm rumors about the film's title and trailer release date.
Last week, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige revealed in an interview that a trailer for Avengers 4 would be released by the end of 2018. Meanwhile, a longstanding rumor among comic book and film blogs says the film will ultimately be titled "Avengers: Annihilation" - along with rumors of dozens of other possible titles for the film.
Both of these stories have now been repeated thousands of times in American blogs and social media - and now they've made their way into Russian social media as well. A blog on Russian social media network VK titled "Trailer Music" has posted a clip of music it claims will be used in the trailer for Avengers 4, along with the claim that a trailer will debut in November, and that the film will indeed be titled "Avengers: Annihilation."
The twist is, that blog - essentially the equivalent of a Facebook fan page - has now been used as a source (with qualification) by American sites as a potentially credible rumor. It mayb be a stretch to say Russia is trying to influence Avengers 4 - but the fact that it has influenced its coverage hits a little close to home a week before the U.S. Midterm election day.
