The fan-favorite Forgotten Realms world of Dungeons & Dragons returns in early 2019 with a new comic book limited series from IDW Publishing, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Dungeons & Dragons: A Darkened Wish by writer B. David Walters and artist Tess Fowler is scheduled to launch in February and run for five issues.

“I've been adventuring in the Forgotten Realms for a long time and having the honor of contributing to that world is incredibly exciting,” said Walters. “I can't wait to show the fans the power and intensity of a truly epic D&D story!”

Originally created by game designer Ed Greenwood in the late 1960s, Forgotten Realms was introduced into the Dungeons & Dragons game in the 1980s. The fantasy-based world has been the setting for numerous D&D campaigns, prose novels, video games, and comic books.

“I have dreamed of making Dungeons & Dragons comics since I was twelve years old, but A Darkened Wish is beyond anything I could have hoped for," said Fowler. "Working with B. Dave Walters on this project is the coolest.”

In this new series, a young wizard named Helene ventures with her friends from the island of Mintarn to explore the world as war looms on the horizon.
