Former Starman writer James Robinson has joined the writer's room of DC Universe's Stargirl. Showrunner Geoff Johns announced that during his spotlight panel at New York Comic Con on Friday, as well as more about the 2019 series.

Johns likens the feel of Stargirl to Back to the Future and Karate Kid.

"It's about passing the torch and heroism for a new generation," Johns said.

The showrunner describes Brec Bassinger, who was recently cast in the lead role, as "adorable but she can still kick ass.

"Casting her was really fun."

Johns told the audience that Stargirl will be based on his original comic book, Stars and S.T.R.I.P.E, but will also encorporate new material.

"We're building a S.T.R.I.P.E. robot that is 15 feet tall," Johns said.
