Jennifer Beals has joined DC Universe's Swamp Thing in a recurring role, according to Deadline.
Beals will reportedly portray Sherriff Lucilia Cable, described in the Hollywood trade as "Tough as nails and pragmatic, Sheriff Cable’s fierce devotion to her son, Matt, is rivaled only by her sworn duty to serve and protect the town of Marais. As the community she has dedicated her life to defending is beset by strange forces, Lucilia must double down in her efforts to safeguard everyone she holds dear."
Lucilia Cable does not appear to be directly based on a specific DC Comics character, however the last name "Cable" comes from the extended Swamp Thing mythos - it's the surname of Matthew Cable, a government agent who died protecting Alec Holland and was later resurrected as the pet raven of Sandman's Dream. The 1982 live action Swamp Thing film adapted the character as a government agent named Alice Cable, played by Adrienne Barbeau.
Swamp Thing is expected to debut on the DC Universe streaming service in 2019.
