Despite rumors that Ben Affleck departed the director's chair for The Batman over issues with his script, long-time DC storyboard artist (and DC animation director) Jay Oliva says that Affleck's planned story was the "best Batman script" he had "ever read."
"The original Affleck script was the best Batman script I’ve ever read," Oliva said in response to a fan on Twitter who asserted Affleck left the film over his failure to develop a script. "Ben had a kick ass story and I believe that the audience and fans would have loved it."
Oliva storyboarded Man of Steel, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and Wonder Woman, and directed the animated films Batman: The Dark Knight Returns, Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox, Justice League War, Batman: Assault on Arkham, Batman vs. Robin, Batman: Bad Blood, and Justice League Dark.
Deathstroke actor Joe Mangianello agreed with Oliva's statements, simply tweeting a check mark as his seal of approval on the statement.

Oliva had apparently already storyboarded at least one sequence featuring a fight between Batman and Deathstroke - a key point of the film's rumored story, which would have involved the Legion of Doom dispatching Deathstroke to Gotham City to kill Batman.
"There was a lot happening that is above you and my paycheck," Oliva explained in response to another comment questioning the reason behind Affleck's departure. "I wish it was as easy as just making it. It had some of the best Batman/Deathstroke stuff I’d ever done!"
Director Matt Reeves took Affleck's place as director of The Batman following Affleck's departure. Reeves has reportedly developed his own story for the film, which will not draw on Affleck's script - though Reeves says Affleck is still involved in the film .
The Batman is currently in development, with no theatrical release date yet announced.
