In Captain Marvel, Carol Danvers is a super-powered human fighter pilot who becomes a member of an elite cosmic peacekeeping force who patrol the galaxy in green uniforms. Sound familiar?
That's probably because, on the surface, that premise sounds a lot like DC's Green Lantern, in which test pilot Hal Jordan joins a squad of space police after obtaining an alien power ring.
Of course, those minor details merely add up to some squint-and-you'll-see-it similarities in the story's tropes - but one Captain Marvel photo released by Entertainment Weekly takes the comparison a step further with what could be a wild coincidence, or a subtle homage to the film's Green Lantern influence.

As pointed out by Border Town artist Ramon Villalobos, in a scene depicting her in casual clothes, Carol is seen wearing a leather jacket, jeans, and a Nine Inch Nails t-shirt - the same exact outfit worn by Green Lantern Kyle Rayner when he obtained his power ring (right down to the NIN shirt).
Back in 2016, Captain Marvel screenwriter Nicole Perlman brought up the similiarities between the Marvel and DC characters' origins.
"Here’s the thing, if you were just going to do a straight adaptation of the comics, her origin story is very similar to Green Lantern. And obviously, that’s not what we want to do."
Captain Marvel is due out in theaters March 8, 2019.
