Cold November Comics1 of 12
Marvel's just-released November solicitations reveal a lot in store this winter at the House of Ideas.
From the end of Extermination, to Avengers #700, to the death of Bruce Banner (again?), here's everything we learned from Marvel's November solicitations.
Missing Titles2 of 12
Three current Marvel ongoing are not listed in Marvel’s November solicitations - Sentry, Moon Knight and Scarlet Spider.
October’s Scarlet Spider #25 and Sentry #5 is the latest solicited issue of those series, while Moon Knight’s latest solicited issue is October’s #200 – also the final issue collected in November’s Moon Knight: Legacy Vol. 2 trade collection.
Marvel ongoings occasionally have skip-months, but their absence raises question marks about the two series going forward.
Half-Cable, Half-Thanos, All Brolin3 of 12
OK, so that may not be an actual Cable/Thanos mash-up on the cover of Cosmic Ghost Rider #5 (Infinity Warp idea, anyone?), but the Thanos on Geoff Shaw’s cover definitely evokes a certain Cable-vibe.
Maybe this one is simply chalks up to a Josh Brolin joke – his ultimate Marvel role, perhaps?
Staff Of Exposition4 of 12
Nico Minoru’s enigmatic Staff of One is both a blessing and a burden. It makes her one of the most powerful mages in the Marvel Universe – but it also exacts a painful price.
It looks like the secrets of the Staff of One – and their ramifications on Nico – will be revealed in Novembers Runaways #15.
Message In A Bottle5 of 12
The solicitation for November’s Tony Stark: Iron Man #7 has an odd quirk – an interruption by an unknown source (someone named “Motherboard") to warn readers of “another message” coming in the pages of the issue.
As for what that message may be, it may have something to do with the solicitation also saying “Your whole reality is a lie.”
Hero Vs. Hero6 of 12
Marvel has never been shy about pitting its heroes against one another – and in November, it looks like two such clashes will take place.
First, in Return of Wolverine #3, it looks like the newly resurrected Logan will fight his one-time teammates the X-Men; maybe it's over him not being included in that massive Uncanny X-Men pin-up?
Then in Doctor Strange #7, the Sorcerer Supreme takes on the strangest foe of all (get it?) – himself.
Dead... Or Alive?7 of 12
Death is no stranger to the Marvel Universe (she even dated Thanos… And Deadpool) – and the fates of some heroes may lie in question once again this November.
First off, November’s Death of Inhumans #5 seems to portend a terrible fate for everyone’s favorite Inhuman canine, with the covers both finalizing the fate of Lockjaw.
Then, it looks like the Hulk may not be so unkillable after all, as the solicitation for Immortal Hulk #8 says Bruce Banner is not only dead – “his corpse has been dissected.” And it looks like his old foe the Absorbing Man aims to do the same thing to Banner’s hulking alter ego.
One character whose fans don’t have to fret is Squirrel Girl, as November’s Unbeatable Squirrel Girl #38 reveals the previous issue’s “death of Squirrel Girl” is a fake out – but also reveals that Doreen will have to contend with a Skrull.
Cyke Out?8 of 12
The story of the time-displaced original 5 X-Men will come to a close in November’s Extermination #5 - but even the solicitation for this closing issue leaves some questions.
Mainly – what’s up with Cyclops? He’s the only O5 X-Man without an adult counterpart, and he’s the only one not joining the others on the cover. Who’s grabbing his visor, and why?
Will there be a Scott Summers in the Marvel Universe after Extermination?
Loki's Avengers9 of 12
Loki was inadvertently responsible for the formation of the original Avengers – and it looks like history may repeat itself with November’s Infinity Wars #5, which brings together “Loki’s cosmic Avengers.”
Based on the cover, it looks like Loki’s team will consist of Skaar, White Queen, Ms. Marvel, Ant-Man, and Kang.
Summer Symbiote10 of 12
We’re just at the tail end of summer 2018 – but by November, Venom will already be looking ahead to next summer.
The solicitation for November’s Venom #8 mentions the issue will set up “next summer’s Venom epic” – though it doesn’t offer any clue as to what that story will be.
With that symbol though, you have to expect Damon Hellstrom though, right?
Avengers #70011 of 12
Marvel’s quietly been announcing its big “anniversary” issues for renumbered titles – as in November’s Avengers #10’s double-numbering as Avengers #700.
To celebrate the milestone, Marvel is replacing a team member (Doctor Strange is departing) with a mysterious new recruit, and the Avengers will be beset by several new incarnations of classic teams as they become “Earth’s Most Hated Heroes.”
And of course, Avengers #700 will be a whopping 64 pages (and $5.99).
