Riverdale showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa has announced that a second spin-off to the Archie-based show is in the works with CW.
“We’re still early on in the process and it will be very different from Riverdale,” said Aguirre-Sacasa during a TCA event (via Deadline). The producer told reporters the spin-off would happen “in this development cycle."
Additionally, Aguirre-Sacasa and CW president Mark Pedowitz said that Riverdale's first spin-off, The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, will not cross over with Riverdale - though didn't directly rule out the possibility.
“I think right now we’re just making sure that the shows have their own identities and own set-of-rules,” Aguirre-Sacasa explained. Sabrina was initially planned to air on the CW, but will now instead debut on Netflix, which has a streaming agreement with CW.
