Ben Affleck "is still involved" in Warner Bros.' The Batman according to writer/director Matt Reeves. Reeves, who was at the Television Critics Association summer press tour on Thursday promoting his upcoming Fox series The Passage, was asked - and answered - about his brewing DC superhero film.
"We have conceptual stuff going and coming into being and my head is totally in the script," Reeves said (as reported by Deadline). "In fact I’m going to be leaving right now (from the Beverly Hilton) to work on the script."
Reeves shot down speculation that his film would be based on Batman: Year One, saying its not an origin story.
"I’m just excited to be focused on a tale that’s defying for him (Batman) and is very personal to him, but at the same time, we’re really - obviously we’re not doing any origin tales or anything like that - but definitely Batman, emotional, and him being the world’s greatest detective."
According to Deadline, Reeves said he hopes to begin filming The Batman in the first half of 2019.
Warner Bros. has not announced a release date, but has previously earmarked four 2020 dates - February 14, April 3, June 5, and July 24 - for unspecified DC films to debut in theaters.
