Ron Wimberly's Prince of Cats graphic novel has been optioned for film by Legendary Entertaiment, according to Deadline.
Atlanta actor Lakeith Stanfield will reportedly star in the film, which adapts William Shakespeare's Romeo & Juliet to 1980s Brooklyn against the backdrop of the burgeoning hip-hop scene. The story is told through the perspective of Tybalt, the titular Prince of Cats, who will be portrated by Stanfield.
Screenwriter Selwyn Sefyu Hinds will adapt Prince of Cats for the screen. No director or projected release date has been announced.
