Just 11 days after the Walt Disney Company publicly dismissed writer/director James Gunn from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and Marvel/Disney as a whole, some say the company could eventually reinstate him. Variety cites unnamed sources who relay that there is "a growing feeling" that Gunn could return.
"Sources say there has been a growing feeling that Gunn could be reinstated, especially because Marvel and Disney have been unusually radio-silent on who could replace him since the firing," wrote Variety's Alex Stedman and Ricardo Lopez. "Production is slated to start at the top of 2019, and following Gunn’s removal from the film, it was thought that Marvel and Disney would need to move quickly to replace him, since the replacement would likely have to do some work on the script."
Prior to his exit, Gunn stated that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 was scheduled to be released May 2020 and that he recently completed the first draft of the script.
