October Rust1 of 12
Marvel's just-released October solicitations included plenty of news, including updated series lengths for the revived Unstoppable Wasp and Iceman, Old Man Logan coming to an end, a new creative team on Spectacular Spider-Man, and the return of Marvel Zombie.
But even that is just the tip of the iceberg. Read on to find out all the news we sussed out of Marvel's October 2018 solicitations.
#10 Nebula Leads some Cosmic Returns2 of 12
Some big Marvel Cosmic names will return in October, including Nebula (complete with an MCU-style makeover), Skurge, and the Destroyer in the pages of – where else - Asgardians of the Galaxy #2.
Gladiator and the Shi’Ar Imperial Guard will also appear in Asgardians of the Galaxy, and they won’t stop there. They’ll also pop up in Mr. and Mrs. X #3 and 4.
#9 Artists Step Up3 of 12
There are a few shifting art teams in Marvel’s October solicitations. First up, Javier Pina will take on Doctor Strange #6, while Roge Antonio will draw X-Men Red #9.
Then, Gang Hyuk Lim will draw Tony Stark: Iron Man #5, and Iban Coello will draw Venom #7.
#8 Havok Joins the Reavers4 of 12
At this stage, there are more X-Men that have turned evil and gone good again (sometimes more than once) than those who haven’t – and Astonishing X-Men’s Havok is no exception. But would he really stoop so low as to work alongside the mutant-hunting cyborgs the Reavers? (Does he not remember the Australian outback massacre?)
We’ll find out in October’s Astonishing X-Men #16, which features that exact team-up. But is there more to this than meets the eye? Havok brought the current Astonishing team together to help fight the Reavers. Hmm...
#7 Weirdworld Runnin' Wild5 of 12
Marvel’s getting “weird” again this October when a pair of titles venture in Weirdworld, the wild fantasy setting that returned to the Marvel Universe after Secret Wars.
First up, Champions #25 will send the teen team into Weirdworld on an adventure where they’ll take on archetypal fantasy roles.
Then, in Weapon H #9, the titular hybrid hero will team up with Titania, Man-Thing, Korg, a Brood named Blake, and a Roxxon employee named Angel to venture into Weirdworld.
#6 Squirrel Girl - Beaten?6 of 12
Squirrel Girl may be “unbeatable,” but nobody escapes death forever – not even Doreen Green. And it looks like her bill may come due in October’s Unbeatable Squirrel Girl #37 (even though the solicitation jokingly promises the series has not been cancelled).
So what’s the deal? We’ll have to wait till October to find out – but it looks like the answer may involve everyone from Loki, to the Rhino, to Kraven, and even “several pages of Wolverine,” according to the solicit.
#5 Emma Frost vs. Hellfire Club7 of 12
In recent months, Emma Frost has gone back and forth on whether she’s a hero or a villain – but in her X-Men Black one-shot, she’ll take on her former villainous allies the Hellfire Club, namely Sebastian Shaw.
In fact, the solicitation for the issue says she’ll attempt to enlist the help of the X-Men. Does this mean she’ll finally take her place among the team again?
#4 Avengers vs. Immortal Hulk8 of 12
The last time the Avengers crossed paths with the Hulk, he was freshly resurrected and rampaging through the pages of Avengers' "No Surrender" arc, and giving Earth’s Mightiest Heroes more than a run for their money at that. Now it looks like they’ll get a rematch in October’s Immortal Hulk #7.
But Hulk has been a tough opponent for even the strongest of Avengers rosters. How will the new all-killer-no-filler team handle the Jade Giant at what may be the peak of his strength?
#3 Namor's Back (in Black)9 of 12
And speaking of the Avengers, over in their own title, they’ll take on another of Hulk’s old allies (and one of their former foes) Namor, the Sub-Mariner.
From the looks of things, Namor’s adding a bit of an edge to both his look and his approach to the surface world – with what the solicitation for Avengers #9 calls “a bold new plan that will change the balance of power on Earth forever.”
#2 Slim's Back?10 of 12
Marvel has been teasing the upcoming X-Men event Extermination as the resolution to the story of the time-displaced original X-Men. But what of their adult counterparts – specifically the adult Cyclops who is currently dead?
So far we’ve seen no indication of a return, even if Cyclops the younger goes back to his home time. But there’s a figure on the cover of Extermination #4 standing with the adult Jean Grey in a pose similar to the one she shared with the adult Cyclops on the cover of Uncanny X-Men #137, wearing an outfit not unlike Cyclops’ time-traveling “Slim” look. Could this be an indication of Cyke’s impending return?
#1 FF & Friends11 of 12
The Fantastic Four usually has a set number of members – but which four heroes actually comprise the team has shifted over the years. Sure, the core has almost always been Reed, Sue, Ben, and Johnny, but when one (or sometimes all) of the team is unavailable, some big names have taken their place.
In October’s Fantastic Four #3, many of those temporary FF members will show up – including (from the cover and solicitation) Spider-Man, Wolverine, the Hulk, Ghost Rider, Medusa, Crystal, Luke Cage, Storm, She-Hulk, Black Panther, and Ant-Man.
And, speaking of a totally different kind of family, Tony Stark’s long-lost brother Arno Stark will return in Tony Stark: Iron Man #5.
