A new Jessica Jones ongoing by writer Kelly Thompson and artist Mattia de Iulis has launched Wednesday as a digital-first - and is part of a formalized line of digital comics from Marvel dubbed Marvel Digital Originals (MDO). First reported by IGN, the titles are available now on both comiXology and Marvel Unlimited - with plans for a print edition after the series concludes.

For Jessica Jones, series editor Nick Lowe said confirmed that character co-creator Brian Michael Bendis suggested Thompson to succeed him as the character's principal writer.

“Kelly was actually suggested by Brian Michael Bendis, co-creator of Jessica, when he was wrapping the previous volume because he was impressed by her depiction of Jessica in Hawkeye," said Lowe. "And Mattia de Iulis had the slick neo-noir vibe the team was looking for."

Jessica Jones' first arc, "Blind Spot," will run three issues with each one being double-sized. Here is the debut issue's solicitation:

"BLIND SPOT Part 1! Jessica Jones was once the costumed super hero known as Jewel. She sucked at it. Now she’s a private investigator at her own firm, Alias Investigations. She sucks less at that. With the Purple Man gone, her relationship with her husband, Luke Cage, and their daughter, Danielle, is better than ever. But her past always comes knocking, and when a woman whose case she fumbled winds up dead on her office floor, Jessica goes from private investigator to prime suspect. Can she find the real killer and clear her name? A DOUBLE-SIZED Marvel Digital Original you don't want to miss!"

Previous Marvel digital-firsts such as June's Cloak & Dagger will be folded into the line, and Marvel plans to announce three more MDO titles Saturday during Comic-Con International: San Diego.

“There’s a huge audience out there - not just on the Netflix front but on ABC, Freeform, Hulu, etc. - that experience these characters digitally,” said Lowe. "In fact, it was hard not to notice when characters like Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist were some of our biggest sellers in the digital marketplace. That was the inspiration for the Kaare Andrews/Afu Chan’s Iron Fists digital strategy and this next big step for us."

Jessica Jones #2 is scheduled for release August 29, with #3 following on September 26. Here is the solictiation text for both:

"BLINDSPOT Part 2! As Jessica re-opens a cold case in the hopes of bringing a former client’s murderer to justice, she finds herself caught in the web of a serial killer who seems to be targeting powerful women. When two of the Marvel Universe’s most powerful redheads are caught in his crosshairs, Jessica may be their only chance at survival. Guest-starring (or guest-slaying?) Elsa Bloodstone and Mary Jane Watson! A DOUBLE-SIZED Marvel Digital Original you don't want to miss!

"BLINDSPOT Part 3! Jessica’s hunt for a deranged serial killer comes to an explosive and bizarre end, and in the aftermath, she reunites with her family for a much-needed break. Since Jessica Jones and Luke Cage got married, there’s been nothing they couldn’t handle together. But that’s about to change… A DOUBLE-SIZED Marvel Digital Original you don't want to miss!

Editor's Note: This Jessica Jones series was originally announced by IGN and Marvel as a three-issue limited series, but the publisher has informed Newsarama that was in error and the book is planned as an ongoing.
