A live-action Batwoman television series is in development at the CW for a possible 2019 debut, according to Deadline. The DC-CW's overarching producer Greg Berlanti is developing this project with one-time The Vampire Diaries and Smallville executive producer Caroline Dries.
"In Batwoman, written by Dries based on the DC characters, armed with a passion for social justice and a flair for speaking her mind, Kate Kane soars onto the streets of Gotham as Batwoman, an out lesbian and highly trained street fighter primed to snuff out the failing city’s criminal resurgence," reads Deadline's description of the show. "But don’t call her a hero yet. In a city desperate for a savior, Kate must overcome her own demons before embracing the call to be Gotham’s symbol of hope."
Dries and Berlanti are slotted in to executive produce Batwoman, joine by Sarah Schechter and Geoff Johns.
Batwoman was previously announced to debut in a December 2018 DC-CW crossover event between Arrow, The Flash, DC's Legends of Tomorrow, and Supergirl.
Deadline reports that Berlanti Productions is about to begin casting for the role.
