SUPER-SLEUTH SHAKESPEARE COMING TO COMICS THROUGH CROWD-FUNDER
No Holds Bard is a 140+ page graphic novel offering a comedic look at superhero capers through the lens of Shakespeare by way of Adam West’s Batman. Written entirely in iambic pentameter by Eric Gladstone (Marvel Heroes Omega) and illustrated by Logan Faerber (Namwolf), the comic depicts William Shakespeare (aka The Bard) and his young page, Page (of The Merry Wives of Windsor) as world-renowned 17th Century crime-fighters and dramatists with a mix of far-out 60’s ephemera thrown in for fun.
Starting with a snappy caper featuring a kidnapped Queen Elizabeth, it shifts to a more nuanced exploration of “love, labour, and losing it.” Told in six single-issue length chapters, Bard and Page pursue their dreaded arch-nemesis, Puck the faerie (who turned Shakespeare’s parents into asses) across an epic landscape featuring all manner of characters from Renaissance literature and even rival playwrights.
Simultaneously intellectual, goofy, and daring, No Holds Bard: The First Folio will endear literary loyalists and action aficionados alike. Comic lovers will enjoy pin-ups from some of comics’ best, including Pia Guerra (Y: The Last Man), James Callahan (The Auteur), Luke McGarry (MAD Magazine), Aneke (Gotham City Garage), Ming Doyle (Anatomy of a Metahuman), and Joe Quinones (Howard the Duck)!
No Holds Bard: The First Folio is running on Kickstarter through August 3, 2018, for expected delivery by January 2019. Supporters can choose rewards such as signed bookplates, Shakespeare in the park with the creative team, original music from MAD Magazine editor Allie Goertz and Dude Bro Party Massacre III’s Spencer Owen, a research-quality replica skull in an artisan box, and even having their likeness illustrated into the book.
