Actors Angela Bassett and Justin Theroux have joined the cast of Transformers spin-off Bumblebee as a pair of Decepticons.
Theroux will voice Dropkick, a blue AMC Javelin, while Bassett will voice his counterpart Shatter, a red Plymouth Satellite. Entertainment Weekly has an exclusive image of the pair in action right here.
“The two main villains are Decepticon muscle cars," explained director Travis Knight. “When the cast is too big, and you have a finite amount of time, there’s only so much you can do to create an investment in them. This is a more personal, intimate, and character-driven story, so it felt right to keep the villain plot relatively simple and contained. If you keep things lean, you can add a lot of other stuff on top of it that makes it more enjoyable.”
Set in 1987, Bumblebee focuses on the fan-favorite Autobot, portraying him in his classic guise as a yellow Volkswagen Beetle. The film is due out in theaters December 21.
