Updated July 18, 2018: Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment have announced the Joaquin Phoenix-led Joker film's title release date, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The film, titled simply Joker, is scheduled for release October 4, 2019.
"[Joker is] exploration of a man disregarded by society [that] is not only a gritty character study, but also a broader cautionary tale," according to an unnamed Warner Bros. representative.
With that date, Warner Bros.' Joker will compete with Paramount Pictures' Gemini Man and Fox Searchlight's The Woman in the Window. Wonder Woman 1984 is scheduled to arrive one month later on November 1.
Original Story: Warner Bros. is moving forward with a Joker solo film starring Joaquin Phoenix from director Todd Phillips and producer Martin Scorsese, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The film has been in development for some time, with Phoenix reportedly in talks for months. The film's budget is reportedly arond $55 million - relatively low for a major studio superhero film.
No release date for the film has reportedly been set.
