Archie Comics is developing two new animated series based on Riverdale cast of characters, according to New York Times. A comedic show revolving around Archie and the Riverdale gang is in the works, as well as a "horror-tinged" cartoon starring Josie (but minus the Pussycats).
Archie and his supporting characters have had three previous animated series: 1968's The Archie Show (with various spin-offs), 1987's The New Archies, and 1999's Archie's Weird Mysteries.
Josie & the Pussycats had their own animated series in 1970, then revamped two years later as Josie & the Pussycats in Outer Space.
NYT doesn't specify what animation companies Archie is working with. As for where it could air, its reported that Archie is aiming at "network broadcast or streaming." Archie's Riverdale airs on the CW Network, while The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina is scheduled to debut on Netflix.
