Skottie Young and Jorge Corona are working on a new ongoing series for Image Comics titled Middlewest. Schedueld to launch this fall, Middlewest is described by Young as "a book about the struggle between a father and son and a boy’s journey to try and not become the monster he feels might be inside of him."
Announced in the backmatter of I Hate Fairyland #20, Middlewest will be colored by Jean-Francios Beaulieu and lettered by Nate Piekos.
"It’s a coming of age/quest story with the darker elements similar to old Don Bluth movies like Secret of Nimh, An American Tail or classic stories like Pinocchio and Huckleberry Finn," Young writes.
"Then we mix in a little Miyazaki, Neil Gaiman, and Stephen King flavor into it as well. At the heart of it all are a lot of personal experiences I’ve had growing up in the Midwest and the struggles of dealing with a broken home and the anger on all sides that goes along with that."
Mike Huddleston will be providing painted covers.
