In writer Matthew Rosenberg and artists Greg Land, Jay Leisten, and Frank D’Armata’s Astonishing X-Men #13, a new team of X-Men starts to come together – including a surprising returning mutant who hasn’t been seen since 2014.
Spoilers ahead for Astonishing X-Men #13.
In Astonishing X-Men #13, Havok attempts to assemble his own team of X-Men, and after being rebuffed by most of his prospective members, he visits Hank McCoy - who is teaching at at Harvard. As the two argue in Hank’s lab, the Reavers arrive to capture Beast.
Pinned down by gunfire, Havok and Beast try to figure out a way to escape. Saying he has a solution that may end in “mutually assured destruction,” Beast activates a machine in the lab, and from out of nowhere, the long-gone X-Man Banshee – looking a little bit corpse-like and worse for wear – bursts forth to take on the Reavers.
Banshee died in 2006’s X-Men: Deadly Genesis #3. He previously returned as one of the Apocalypse Twins’ Horsemen in Uncanny Avengers, in which Havok played a central role. Banshee was last seen in the Avengers Mansion's medical bay, with Beast saying that Cassidy would require years to recover from the Death Seed energy that revived him.
The story continues in Astonishing X-Men #14, on shelves August 1.
