Cyborg writer Marv Wolfman, who co-created the character, has issued a statement regarding the title's abrupt cancellation with this month's #23.

Here's his statement in full, via Wolfman's Facebook page:

"Fans have been writing asking about the sad news of Cyborg's cancellation. As most of you know, the book had been cancelled long before I got on it but was surprisingly put back on the schedule a few weeks later because DC loves the character as much as I do and they hoped my presence would help.

"But, sadly, most fans had already given up on it and didn't even know I was now writing it. Hindsight being 20-20 and all that, I think we all wish we had simply cancelled the book back then and waited a year to relaunch with the new direction I gave it. I love giant robots - have since forever. Long before anime became popular in the U.S. I was watching a local Japanese UHF station in Flushing, NY, that played Raideen and other Japanese giant robot cartoons. I was at Marvel at the time and my constantly pushing it ispart of the reason why we launched the Shogun Warriors title.

"The shame is I think the direction we were going was solid and fun. I had already written the script for #24, which was being drawn, and was in the middle of #25 when we got the word it was cancelled with the book that had just gone on sale, #23.

"I'm so sorry we couldn't make it work. Thank you everyone who bought the comic and wrote telling me how much they liked where I was taking it. I thank DC for giving us the opportuniy to turn the sales around. Cyborg might not presently have his own title but you can still see him all over the DCU.

"In the meantime, I'm still writing Raven. If you haven't checked it out before, take a look. I really love the very different kinds of stories I'm writing there.

Thanks,
Marv"
