Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige has promised that the next wave of Marvel films will involve "a lot" more female directors.
“I cannot promise that all 20 Marvel movies will have female directors but a heck of a lot of them will,” Feige at the Produced By producers' conference (via Variety).
So far, only one Marvel Studios film features a female director - Anna Boden is co-director of the currently-in-production Captain Marvel, along with Ryan Fleck. No Marvel Studios film, released or still in development, has had a solo female director. Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins was hired to direct Thor: The Dark World, but left the film while it was still in development. She was replaced by director Alan Taylor.
Captain Marvel is due out in theaters March 8, 2019. Marvel Studios has dates reserved for nine unnamed movies through 2021. Feige's comments about "20 films" may refer to another 20 films he's said are in development back in November 2017.
