The children’s graphic novel landscape is filled with classic superhero sagas, but acclaimed children’s writer, Nabila Khashoggi offers a different take on what makes for a modern-day superhero tale. In her upcoming release, Spartan and the Green Egg, Book 4: The Poachers of Tiger Mountain [May 2018], the fourth installment in the educational and entertaining series, Khashoggi takes readers on an epic and vivid exploration of how children can become active in protecting the planet through use of their own special superpowers: friendship, curiosity, and compassion.
As they dive into the pages of Spartan & the Green Egg, children of all ages will set off on a series of unforgettable adventures with the Explorers: Spartan, his three friends, and his dog Grimm, as they travel the Universe, make new friends, solve mysteries, and help save endangered species. With the assistance of a sentient egg-shaped alien vessel, the children are able to travel to the far reaches of the world in the blink of an eye, using their “mind lights” to power it. From the rainforests to the coral reefs, from the mountains to the deserts, the Explorers use their curiosity, intelligence, compassion and friendship to discover new lands and new experiences as well as discover things about themselves.
The concept behind The Poaches of Tiger Mountain series came more than two decades ago, when Khashoggi’s young son was inseparable from his favorite toy, a rubber green egg. At bedtime, Khashoggi began incorporating his beloved toy into her bedtime stories, and eventually became the inspiration for the series. Khashoggi has now turned these personal tales into a colorful and vivid children’s graphic novel with the intent of introducing children to important environmental and cultural themes around the world.
“Our children have inherited the world as it is today,” says Khashoggi. “While we might not be able to leave it as pristine and protected as we’d like, nor as tolerant as it should be, we can give them the understanding and the tools to continue the forward progress.”
Soothing, helpful, and uplifting, Spartan and the Green Egg, Book 4: The Poachers of Tiger Mountain addresses:
• Protecting the planet and becoming involved in its protection
• Learning about and embracing different cultures
• Becoming a global citizen
• Rainforest and coral reef issues
• Endangered species protection
• Activism for children
• And much more!
