HOT AUGUST KNIGHTS1 of 12
Judging by the publisher's August 2018 solicitations, Marvel's got a big summer ahead - and it's not just about Infinity Wars.
On top of that summer event, August 2018 marks some big changes for the X-Men, and the start of Spider-Geddon.
Slather on some sunscreen as we shine some rays on all the news to be found in Marvel's August 2018 Solicitations.
CLASSIFIED AD2 of 12
What lies in the future of the X-Men franchise? August’s solicitations include a listing for X-Classified #2, a still unrevealed X-title with a first issue solicited for July.
As for when we’ll know more, the only information offered by the solicitation makes it clear: “All will be revealed in June!”
How or where this reveal will come remains to be seen – though June will bring the release of Marvel’s September 2018 solicitations.
And Marvel has some time... the deadline for retailers to place their final orders for this series isn't until July 2.
VIBRANIUM + M'KRAAN = ???3 of 12
X-Men lore is all over the Marvel Universe in August, with Black Panther #3 sending T’Challa and his allies on a quest for the M’Kraan crystal – a powerful Shi’Ar object that played a role in the Dark Phoenix Saga.
Then in Exiles #6, the reality-hopping team will meet “the Black Panther of the wild west.”
REUNITED IN THE FUTURE AT LAST4 of 12
A classic X-Men line-up will reunite in August, with Astonishing X-Men Annual #1 bringing the reincarnated Professor X back together with 4 of the 5 time-displaced Original X-Men – marking their first meeting since the teen X-Men were brought to the future in the wake of Professor X’s death at the hands of the older Cyclops (y’know, X-Men stuff).
But Professor X (or X, as he now calls himself) literally isn’t the mentor they once knew, having swapped bodies with Fantomex. Likewise, the Original team have all undergone major changes in powers, personality, or both since coming to the future.
Another classic X-Man, the original Wolverine, will return with his own series in September as revealed in the Hunt For Wolverine: Dead Ends #1 solicitation.
TOTALLY MORTAL SASQUATCH5 of 12
Walter Langkowski A.K.A. Sasquatch has always been a cult-favorite Marvel hero, and one of the most prominent members of the Canadian super-team Alpha Flight. He’s also been a longtime enemy of the Hulk, with the two monstrous heroes clashing multiple times over the years.
Now it looks like that rivalry may end in tragedy as Immortal Hulk #4 pitting them head-to-head in one last clash – with Sasquatch dying at Hulk’s hand.
So much for that non-lethal streak, Banner.
STORM IS COMING6 of 12
Storm has wielded the power of a thunder god before – and been worshipped as a weather goddess in her own right. But in August’s X-Men Gold #33 she’ll return to her Kenyan village wielding her very Asgardian hammer – Stormcaster.
But Stormcaster seems to have a secret that may have ramifications on her powers.
Whatever the outcome, Storm will also join the roster of X-Men Red with August’s #7, complete with a costume redesign from series artist Mahmud Asrar.
GOT A MACHINE HEAD7 of 12
The solicitation for August’s Tony Stark: Iron Man # 3 foretells of the return of a “classic Iron Man villain” whose eventually reemergence will apparently be set up in the series’ first issue.
Who that villain is remains a mystery, but the story will also involve the return of the robotic Aaron Stack, A.K.A. Machine Man.
MILES MORALES: SPIDER-MAN8 of 12
While Miles Morales’ longterm future remains to be seen following the apparent end of his Spider-Man solo series, that title will return at least for a single issue with Spider-Man Annual #1, which brings writer Bryan Edward Hill and artists Nelson Blake II and Mark Bagley in to tell a “mysterious new chapter for Miles” which may or may not be set in his past.
Meanwhile, over on Spectacular Spider-Man #308, artist Chris Bachalo joins the title for a two-issue stint with writer Chip Zdarsky.
MIKE MURDOCK9 of 12
Once upon a time, Matt Murdock got out of his identity being revealed by pretending to be his own twin brother Mike Murdock.
Now, in August’s Daredevil #606 & 607, Mike Murdock will return to the Marvel Universe – this time as Matt Murdock’s actual flesh-and-blood doppelganger.
What’s more, “Mike Murdock” who-or-what-ever he is, seems to have it in for his “twin brother.”
WEAPON X-FORCE10 of 12
In August, Weapon X will undergo some major changes, with the title’s original team disbanding in #21, and Sabretooth forming a new team of mystery recruits under the name “Weapon X-Force” in #22.
Meanwhile the founder of the original X-Force Cable’s solo series will come to an end with July’s #159, as confirmed by the title’s co-writer Zac Thompson.
LIVE AT SPIDER-GEDDON11 of 12
After a cryptic tease, new details about the mysterios Spider-Geddon have been revealed in Marvel’s August 2018 solicitations.
Like its predecessors Spider-Verse and Venom-Verse, the apparent multiversal crossover will begin with a mini-series titled Edge of Spider-Geddon, which will visit some of the alternate Spider-Men seen in Spider-Verse including Spider-Punk and SP//dr.
The dual solicitation for Edge of Spider-Verse #1 & 2 does spell one thing out – Marvel is positioning Spider-Geddon as “the Spider-Event of 2018.
