1.5 Million People Came Out for FREE COMIC BOOK DAY - Report

Free Comic Book Day

An estimated 1.5 million people visited comic book stores as part of Free Comic Book Day this year. Diamond Comic Distributors, which organizes the annual event, has released some statistics about the May 5 event gleaned from a retailer survey.

2,428 different comic retail outlets participated in this year's Free Comic Book Day, ordering 5.3m copies of this year's FCBD books. Diamond estimates that this year's event generated an estimated $5m in "free publicity" for comic books and comic shops.

Digging deeper, 42% of the FCBD retailers reported they had 500 customers or more that day - with 20% saying they had over 1,000 people.

59% of retailers who responded to Diamond's survey reported that it was the best sales day of the year for them, with 90% of retailers rating this year's program as "Extremely Positive" or "Positive".

The next Free Comic Book Day is scheduled to take place Saturday, May 4, 2019.
