Kickstarter has hired Camilla Zhang as its new Comics Outreach Lead. In this role, Zhang will work with comic writers, artists, and publishers on their Kickstarter and Drip campaigns, and promote both platforms publicly to potential customers.
"I am stoked to raise up the comics community, especially marginalized creators. As a queer woman of color, it’s a very personal mission of mine to highlight LGBTQIA and PoC comics writers and artists," Zhang said in a Kickstarter Q&A announcing her hiring. "But specifically, I want to nurture those who may not be confident when it comes to self-promotion. There are so many talented people out there who deserve a larger audience. I think that, often, artists and writers can be shy and unsure about how to market themselves. I’d love to use my experience and new role to help with that."
Zhang is best known for her time as a DC Comics Assistant Editor from 2011 to 2014 working on Before Watchmen and various Batman titles. Since then she has worked at SquareSpace, written for Top Cow, and served as a story consultant for Mad Cave.
Zhang began her Kickstarter position earlier this month, and reports to Kickstarter's Director of Publishing, Margo Atwell.
