20th Century Fox's Deadpool 2 earned $18.6 million at the domestic box office Thursday evening - breaking the record for R-rated films, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
That surpasses the previous record-holder, 2017's It ($13.5m), which took over the record from - you guessed it - 2016's Deadpool with $12.6m. The original Deadpool went on to make $132.4m in its 2016 domestic opening weekend.
Deadpool 2's $18.6m was also the biggest Thursday preview of any Marvel Comics movie not part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Deadpool 2 played in 3,785 North American theaters on Thursday, with plans to expand to 4,349 on Friday.
