Deadpool 2's original ending involved Deadpool traveling back in time and killing notorious 20th Century dictator Adolf Hitler as a baby, according to screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick.
"Deadpool goes back and kills baby Hitler at the very end," Reese told UpRoxx of the unused ending. "That’s what was supposed to happen."
"And not just supposed to happen," added Wernick. "We shot it."
"We shot it and we put it in front of an audience," Reese explained. "He’s got the crib and he’s standing in the German nursery and he’s leaning over the crib to do it and there was kind of this, 'ohhhhh.' And we thought we don’t want to leave the crowd on an 'ohhhhh.' So it ended up coming out."
"There’s even a draft of that scene where we back it up even more where he’s standing over baby Hitler and says, 'God, that is a toughie,'" Wernick continued. "He finds a Sharpie and draws a mustache on the baby – a little baby mustache – and says 'Maximum effort!'"
One other joke that didn't make it to the final cut - or even the final script - would've included drafting Captain America actor Chris Evans to reprise his role as the Human Torch from Fox's Fantastic Four films, though the writers say the cameo never made it past the initial idea stage.
Deadpool 2 opens in theaters Thursday.
