Marvel Television's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. was recently renewed for a sixth season, but ABC won't be airing it until summer 2019 - seemingly after the as-yet-untitled Avengers 4.
“I feel the season we just had was creatively the strongest yet,” ABC President of Entertainment Channing Dungey said during ABC's upfront presentation (via Deadline). "We don’t plan it as a final season. The show has a loyal passionate base. It does incredibly well in delayed viewing. By putting it on the summer we feel we can super-serve the show’s audience and possibly have it on the air longer."
While ABC didn't disclose when exactly Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s sixth season would begin, however for the past two years the network has launched new seasons during the latter half of May.
Avengers 4 is scheduled for release May 3, 2019.
The timing of the show's return will potentially allow it either by proactive choice or dictated necessity to ignore the MCU game-changing events of Avengers: Infinity War.
ABC has ordered 13 episodes for the upcoming season, down from previous seasons' 22-episode orders.
