Wade Wilson may seem like the last person capable of raising a child, but the original idea for Deadpool 2 called for the titular mercenary to have a five-year-old child in the movie.
“The genesis of it was 'What if Deadpool had a child?'," Reynolds explained to Entertainment Weekly. "Like, what if we started five years later and what would that be like? By page 1.5, it was totally untenable. We were just like, ‘Nope. Nope. No, no, no. This is never, ever going to work.’ We went back to the drawing board and kind of reworked it in a way about wanting to have a child, which is something that so many people I know experience on a daily basis — wanting to have a child but can’t.”
In comic books, Deadpool has one child named Eleanor Camacho - with whom he has a strained and dangerous relationship.
Deadpool 2's actual story deals with Deadpool warring with Cable over the fate of an ultra-powerful young mutant. The film is due out in theaters May 18.
