AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR 4th-Highest Domestic Opening Ever

Updated April 27, 2018: Receipts for Thursday's box office are in, and Avengers: Infinity War has earned $134 million so far - $39m domestically and $95m internationally, according to Variety's two reports.

Infinity War's $39m take in the United States and Canada rank as the fourth-highest preview night domestically, behind Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Star Wars: The Last Jedi, and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2. The number did however break Marvel Studios' previous record of $27.6m, which was for 2015's Avengers: Infinity War.

The Avengers three-quel opened domestically in 4,474 theaters - the second-highest ever, behind Despicable Me's 4,529 last year.

Outside of North America, Avengers: Infinity War's international footprint doubled on Thursday - expanding from 21 markets to 43. South Korea and Australia are the strongest markets, with $11.4m and $10m respectively. The film broke records as the highest opening day ever in Korea, Brazil, Philippines, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Vietnam, Central America, Chile, Peru, Bolivia, and UAE.

Original Story: Marvel Studios' Avengers: Infinity War has already taken in $39 million at the box office thanks to a Wednesday opening in 21 overseaes markets, according to BoxOffice. The top markets were Australia ($6.7m), South Korea ($6.5m), France ($3.9m), and the Phillippines ($2.7m).

According to Disney data, Avengers: Infinity War had the highest-opening day ever in South Korea, the Phillipines, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, Hong Kong, and Vietnam. The film is the highest superhero (and/or Marvel) opening in those countries, as well as France, Taiwan, Italy, New Zealand, Denmark, Finland, Norway, Portugal, and Sweden.

The film opens in the United Kingdom, Brazil, and Germany on Thursday, with North America, Canada, and several other markets following on Friday. According to BoxOffice, the film will be in 72% of the global market by the end of the weekend. Two notable delayed release dates are Russia (May 3) and China (May 11).
