Iconic professional wrestling manager/booker Jim Cornette is finally turning his very public love for comic books into a career - with a new OGN titled Behind the Curtain: Real Pro Wrestling Stories. The NWA Hall of Fame personality is working with IDW Publishing on a 60-page graphic novella co-written by Brandon Easton and drawn by Denis Medri (who drew the recent Andre the Giant: Closer to Heaven OGN).
"I collected comics even before I got into wrestling, and as a collector myself I want to make this a real collector's item! I've been telling stories for years in my columns and on my podcasts," said Cornette. "But you know what they say, a picture's worth a thousand words. So 60 pages of pictures should be enough room to tell a heck of a lot of amazing stories. I can't wait to take people behind the scenes and have them see some of my favorite moments illustrated by an awesome team!"
IDW is utilizing Kickstarter for the launch of Behind The Curtain, adding in perks such as original art, conversations with Cornette, and a chance to be drawn into the book - as a villain (or "heel" in wrestling nomenclature), of course.
"I'm a big fan of Jim Cornette's storytelling - both in the ring and through his podcasts. I'm beyond excited to work on this project and explore the modern history of pro wrestling with a man who experienced it firsthand," said Easton. "
Obviously we're passionate about pro-wrestling, and the chance to return to the ring has us flexing our creative muscles!" added Medri.
The Behind the Curtain Kickstarter is scheduled to launch April 17. No release date for the book has been announced.
