Indiana Jones director Steven Spielberg says that the franchise's upcoming fifth installment will be Harrison Ford's last film in the title role - however, Spielberg plans to make more Indiana Jones films without him.

"This will be Harrison Ford's last Indiana Jones movie, I am pretty sure, but it will certainly continue after that," Spielberg told The Hollywood Reporter.

What's more, Spielberg says the next actor to take the role of Indiana Jones could be a woman.

"We'd have to change the name from Jones to Joan. And there would be nothing wrong with that," Spielberg wryly explained. "I have been very lucky to be influenced by women, several of whom I have just loved madly — my mom and my wife."

Indiana Jones 5 is scheduled to go into production this month, for a July 10, 2020 theatrical release.
