Ashley Edward Miller has signed on to write Millenium Films' Red Sonja movie, according to Deadline.
“It’s an exciting opportunity to faithfully adapt the amazing Hyborean world Robert E. Howard created, and inject it with Sonja’s intelligence, ferocity, and fearless humanity,” Miller said. “I want people to love Sonja the way I love her, and walk out of the theater understanding why she’s so popular and enduring. Sonja is an icon.”
Miller is best known as writer on X-Men: First Class, and has written a number of unproduced screenplays including 20th Century Fox's planned Big Trouble in Little China reboot. He originated in television on shows such as Fringe and Terminator: Black Sails, and currently acts as a consulting producer for Amazon's Lore.
According to the Hollywood trade, plans for a new Red Sonja film were prompted by the success of Warner Bros.'s Wonder Woman.
Millenium is also overseeing the current Hellboy reboot.
No release date for Red Sonja has been announced.
